Fr, Ed Prus passed away on March 11, peacefully. His photo, courtesy of long time friend MaryJo Cairo, brims with his sense of humor, his love for others, and his love for Jesus and Mary. He was, for many years, Detroit Oakland Serra Chaplain, where he blessed us and prayed for vocations so needed in the Archdiocese. He was pastor of the National Shrine of the Little Flower for 17 years, and countless priests were sent to him for ministry training. At this he was expert. He will be greatly missed. He last served at St. James Parish in Ferndale, where he walked daily until his health failed. Once, when asked how far he walked, he answered "about 6 rosaries worth!" He was well known in the city. He insisted on saying homilies to the point where he could stand up with assistance, that is, several weeks ago, but then his health began to decline seriously for the past 10 days. He will be missed by generations of priests and faithful. Visitation will be at St. James on Wednesday, March 15, from 2 to 9 PM, followed by a vigil. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9 to 11 at Shrine of the Little Flower, followed immediately by his funeral.
